Biasanya hari lebaran kedua, saya dan keluarga -yang sedang pulang kampung- melanjutkan puasa syawal. Kami sahur dengan menu ketupat, opor ayam plus rendang sisa hari sebelumnya. Sorenya kami lewatkan di pantai pasir putih sembari menunggu ikan bakar sebagai menu berbuka. Selepas maghrib, bapak, adik, oom, pakdhe, dan semua sepupu laki-laki saya menceburkan diri ke air, sambil menarik kami -para wanita- untuk ikut berenang atau sekedar berbasahan (tentu saja kami tak mau dekat-dekat mereka).

Tahun ini tidak biasa. Saya tidak ikut pulang kampung, berlebaran sendiri disini. Malam ini saya sahur dengan mie instan, dan kurma untuk (rencana) menu berbuka.

Saya suka definisi Ki Hajar Dewantara tentang pendidikan, bahwa pendidikan harusnya membebaskan kita dari doktrin yang mengkotak-kotakan dan supaya kita bisa mandiri. Sederhana, tanpa kerumitan.

Mungkin yang diperlukan bukan lagi reformasi, melainkan revolusi pendidikan. Kalau hanya wajah atau bentuknya saja yang diubah seperti kondisi saat ini, kurikulum pendidikan muncul dan tenggelam, ganti nama tetapi barangnya tetap sama. Tetapi revolusi butuh energi yang besar, sementara energi kita banyak dibuang ke gosip atau infotainment, berantem menang-menangan di politik, serta sibuk dengan perbedaan. Kita kekurangan energi, hingga jadinya tak sinergis.

Saya rasa akar masalahnya adalah soal visi. Sepertinya setelah 62 tahun kita merdeka, kita kehilangan tujuan awal kita jadi bangsa. Banyak tulisan rekan-rekan kita yang menuntut perpisahan, mengganti dasar negara, dan sebagainya. Bencana yang datang bertubi-tubi lebih saya maknai sebagai ajakan untuk bersatu lagi dan mengesampingkan ego.

Ada sebuah tulisan di majalah National Geographic edisi Juli 2007 tentang Swarm Theory. Intinya Peter Miller, sang penulis, bicara tentang bagaimana binatang yang tinggal dalam suatu kelompok besar seperti semut, burung, lebah, sampai ikan, bisa membuat hal-hal luar biasa yang tak bisa dilakukan satu individu dalam kelompok itu. Kalau kita mau sedikit flashback, kita jadi suatu bangsa pada awalnya bukan karena kita ingin mendirikan negara etnis melayu, negara agama tertentu, dan sebagainya, tetapi negara yang didalamnya setiap orang, entah itu melayu, bugis, tionghoa, jawa, kristen, budha, islam, kejawen, konghucu, kaharingan, bisa menyumbang karya untuk kemajuan bersama.

Indonesia bukan hadiah dari surga untuk sekedar dinikmati, tapi Indonesia adalah jerih payah, karya bersama, dan rumah untuk semua. Tak ada dikotomi mayoritas-minoritas dan kasta. Kalau kita lihat diluar sana banyak ‘penyakit’ yang bahkan mungkin akut, jangan patah semangat. Lebih baik percaya dan pegang visi kita bersama. Menuju Indonesia yang lebih baik.

Sebuah pemikiran lama, yang mungkin lebih cocok untuk menyambut 17 Agustusan. Secara tak sengaja menyeruak di balik obrolan tentang nasionalisme dan pendidikan bangsa dengan seorang sahabat.
Terima kasih untuk tawaran hebat itu, tapi biarkan saya mengikuti nasionalisme yang mungkin secuil ini untuk bertahan…
